The main advantage of grafting in summer is that you use soft
wood (scion)
so the wood can be "crushed" against the hard wood (stock)
and the two parts
are in contact on all their surface even if you are not an expert in
woodworking.
Grafting is a surgical operation. The callusing must be done quickly so summer is the best time (from June 15th to the end of July) because the sap is running. - In A the stock : 1 is the profile; 2 is the face. - In B the scion : 2 is the face when you do only a cut.That cannot match with the whole surface. - In C the scion : 1 is the profile after having taken away the same part as for the stock; 2 is the face, that matches.
