Mr. Robert Poor (A.R.S. member) sent me the 2 next pictures => This is an old Roovers Tape Writer embossing machine which uses 7/8" metal tape. It is all the iron horse that it looks to be. The letters are 1/2" high and very easy to read. A 1/2" tape size machine is also available. The problems with these single line machines is that a full name can result in a rather long label. The tape is available in Al (7/8" x 0.022" is shown in the image), brass, and stainless; the latter two being quite expensive. This embosser has the advantage of giving labels that you can easily read compared to the 'dog tag' type embossing machines which give multiple lines of tiny letters; brass or aluminum dog tag labels are used in many arboreta. This machine was bought on Ebay. Dog tag machines are also on Ebay from time to time. |
