A few pests.

There are many different caterpillars which eat the leaves of the rhododendrons.
They eat a few leaves then soon turn into moths and disappear.
Damage is only aesthetic.
On the other hand there is a problem if they are many or if they infest a young rhododendron without many leaves.
You should, in this case, apply a systemic insecticide, that is to say one which is carried by the sape.
All systemic insecticides work, just follow the instructions.
