2nd solution => grafting. You need a stock plant which sends the exact amount of sap required by the scion. Opposite, after a few years, you can see that the stock shows less vigor than the R. arboreum grafted onto it. So you need a large collection of stock plants with different vigor. For example a stock for the macabeanum KW 7724 should not have the same strength as for the cerasinum KW 11011. Another problem has arisen which we rarely speak about : the stock has to send the sap according to the growth season of the scion variety. For example, do not use an early blooming rhododendron stock plant to graft a late blooming one.. |
