After the "accidents" begins the chapter about diseases.
We shall limit ourselves to the most usual ones by drawing attention to the fact that rhododendrons well planted in a appropriate soil are nearly never attacked.
See again the chapter #4 about planting.
These small black hairs like beard are the signature of "bud blast", this fungus kills flower buds.
This picture was choosen in order to show this disease is not infectious. The "rhododendron cicadelle" is responsible for this fungus so to counter this fungus we have to, oddly, use an insecticide.
No fungicide seems efficacious and in any case, you would use a fungicide only if a great number of flower buds were affected.
