2- This time the fungus penetrates by the roots and goes to
the top in blocking the sap tubes. Phytophthora cinnamomi is generally responsible and the disease is called PHYTOPHTHORA ROOT ROT. That is by far is the most dangerous disease because we discover it when the plant shows these symptoms of thirst and is too late. When we scrape the wood at the neck of the plant we clearly see the same typical brownish color but the solution which was to cut lower does not work in this case. This rhododendron is lost and you will lose a bit more money if you water it with ALIETTE or SUBDUE. These systemic products are well known for their effectiveness against Phytophthora root rot but the system only works if the sap can run. ALIETTE OR SUBDUE in prevention YES, but their effectiveness as a curative is , of course, far less. Phytophthora root rot first attacks rhododendrons which are unwell.  See again the chapter #4.
